"They are 6 young women from Alsace, aged 17 to 24, forged in the values and endurance of the Guides de France. Resolutely Francophile, they refused to accept the Nazi yoke over Alsace. They set up their own network, the "Pur-sang", to organise the passage of prisoners of war and Reichsarbeittsdiendt draft dodgers into the free zone. For 2 years, they took in more than 400 fugitives, providing them with false papers and accompanying them on foot across the Vosges, in defiance of the danger..."
Etienne Gendrin, author of the comic strip "Têtes de mule, 6 jeunes alsaciennes en Résistance" (Muleheads, 6 young Alsatians in the Resistance), brings their incredible exploits to life in 22 panels combining graphic narrative, historical documents and quotations from Alice Daul's diary. A moving and remarkably well-documented insight into annexed Alsace!
