Exultate Choir: Sacred Songs

This choir, recently formed in our region, is a vocal octet that specialises in sacred polyphony from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Pierluigi da Palestrina, Giovanni Croce, Hans Leo Hassler and Alessandro Scarlatti, amongst others, are the greatest composers of this genre. Their measured songs highlight multiple voices that respond to or overlap with one another, generally without the accompaniment of any musical instrument, but always inspired by the religious music of Western culture.
The originality of Exultate, however, lies in the addition of a clarinet, which brings its warm, velvety tone, particularly in the lower register of certain pieces.
More recent liturgical chants, accompanied by a keyboard, also form part of their repertoire, as do hymns of devotion to Mary or seasonal chants such as traditional Christmas carols or those on the theme of the Passion.
